Fall, winter, and spring driving conditions are expected to be difficult, but hot weather makes it easy to let your guard down on the road.

FOUR KEY ISSUES TO WATCH OUT FOR
1. Tire Blowouts
In the summer, air pressure increases as temperatures rise and as wheels turn on hot pavement, friction adds additional heat. If a tire is not properly inflated, it can easily blow. 
  • Regularly check your tire quality and pressure
  • Keep an air compressor in your truck
  • Be cautious of the vehicle in front of you, if it has a blowout, the rubber can fly
2. Overheated Engines
During the peak summer months, engines tend to overheat. If engine warning signals are ignored for too long your truck can overheat, leading to smoke and possibly a funky smell.
  • Pull over immediately and turn your truck off
  • If you can't pull over right away, run your heater and blower to pull heat from your hood and engine until you can safely stop.
3. Battery Problems
The heat can quickly drain the liquid in your battery. As liquid leaks due to high temperatures, the battery case can start to erode causing damage.
  • Keep an eye on your dashboard to view your battery life
  • Do regular checks and cleaning
  • Keep a portable battery kit in your truck
4. Vacation Traffic
May through September are the most popular travel months. In addition to summer construction, traffic is a huge challenge. Many areas during the summer also have increased fog.
  • Maintain a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you
  • Install fog lights
  • Ensure all towing equipment is securely installed
  • Ensure you have adequate tow mirrors
