GM Agrees to Build Nikola's Electric Pickup Truck

General Motors has bought a US$2-billion equity stake in startup Nikola Corp. The move appears to be part of a plan to gain more territory in the emerging market for electric vehicles (EVs). During the first 8 days of September, GM has announced alliances with Honda, Uber, and Nikola that are expected to help expand its ambitious plans for next-generation transportation.

GM formed a 10-year alliance with Nikola to engineer and build the electric-vehicle startup's Badger pickup truck. Production at a GM plant is expected to start in late 2022.
